About the artist:

Photographer Willem Diepraam belongs to the generation that openly expressed dissatisfaction with society in the late 1960s. As a photographer for the socially critical student magazine Student, he grew into a professional and committed photojournalist. Photographing for Vrij Nederland in the seventies he searched for sharp contrasts. At the end of the seventies he broke with this way of informing. He was opposed to its one-sided and pamphletistic character. His work then became more nuanced and became personally colored. In the eighties his fame grew and he was considered an important representative of Dutch documentary photography. Because Diepraam no longer wanted to conform to the prevailing conventions in (photo) journalism at the end of the 1980s, he withdrew from that world. From that time on, he shows himself to be a generalist and works for himself. - Depth of Field
